I wrote a book, check it out

How to be amazing! a manifesto. 42 ways to live a more meaningful life. Robert Carr
Writing a book might seem impossible, but with planning and commitment almost anything is possible.

Someone on Reddit said I wrote a self-help book and was trying to sell it through my website.

Why did I write this book?

I can remember the day; clearly, my friend and I were at a pool hall in our hometown. It was during the afternoon, cause I remember seeing the light through the windows.

At the time, I was ragging about how the great depression was upon us and the economy would collapse. After one of my rants ended, my friend angrily said, “man, you are so depressing.”

He was right about what I was saying, but I didn’t think of it that way. Instead, I saw what I was saying as unemotional facts, and while they haven’t become reality yet, time will tell.

But he was right; I had to change my way of thinking.

Sometimes we don’t realize who we appear to be to others; I certainly didn’t at the time. There I was, a pessimist who needed to change his ways of thinking.

Seemingly contradicting, around this time, I had read a decent self-help book and felt inspired to write something similar.

I’d always wanted to be a writer, and here was an opportunity to make that a reality. Technically, I already was a writer as, at the time, my first book was sitting somewhere on a USB stick.

All these events came together and helped me realize that I too could write a book like the one I’d read, and people might be interested in it.

How did I write this book?

Knowing that I wanted to write a book, needed to be more positive, and had found a potential market, I had to work out what my book would be about.

I pulled out a piece of paper and wrote down my idea, “the how to be amazing book.” I then jotted down as many meaningful things as I could think of at the time and then stopped.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’d add to the list whenever I had an exciting idea. By the time I was done, the paper had contained 42 different things. Some of them were hard to read, but I was able to get their gist.

Ultimately, I had created a blueprint for what needed to be completed.

Now that I had my list, I promised myself that I would write a chapter a day till it was done. That didn’t go exactly as planned, but I was done by the 60th day.

At that point, I closed the tab on my web browser and didn’t look at it for a long time. A year or two later, I opened it up again, committed to editing it, and then paid someone to go over it for me.

Once again, I let it sit finished but not published until another bout of inspiration. I self-published the book on Amazon, and some friends bought a few copies.

I needed a change in perspective.

As I wrote the book and finished it, I realized that my worldview had shifted a little; rather than focusing on the negative things, I was more able to appreciate the positive things happening around me.

But I wouldn’t have been able to do that without taking action, and that action made a change of perspective more possible. Rather than seeing the world negatively, it was possible to see it in a more positive light.

Taking action enables us to realize that other possibilities are out there.

For each step along the way to getting the book finished, I needed to shift and change my perspective. A first, I needed to realize the motivation behind writing something that people wanted to read.

After writing the first draft, my perspective shifted again to realize that I needed to finish what I’d started. And once it was done, my attitude turned to the idea that you can have something, but if no one knows, it is difficult to make a difference.

How the book changed my life

As I mentioned earlier, this wasn’t my first book, but it was the first book that I got to the point of being published. Completing the book showed me that it was possible to have an idea and follow it to fruition.

At the same time, the book enabled me to shift my worldview to be a little more positive. While I focused on big world problems that I could do nothing about, writing the book enabled me to think positively and focus on the small things I could change.

Writing the book proved that I was a writer and could potentially make a career.

Often we have ideas about ourselves and who we are, or at least who we want to be. However, it’s one thing to think of yourself as something, and quite another to know you are that something.

If you have an idea about who you are and want to be someone different, you need to take action and do something about it. And that was my main lesson from writing this book.

How the book will change your life, hint, it won’t

Whenever someone tells me that something will change my life, I run away because I know they are lying. If something is true, you know it and realize it through experience; you don’t need to be sold on it.

When my wife and I started living together, she would shower at night, and I’d shower in the morning. When we visited her family in Japan during the winter, everyone had a bath a night, so I embraced it and quickly realized it was a great idea. It’s been six years, and I still shower at night.

Books can’t change us, but they give us hints about how to improve our lives.

My book isn’t going to change your life, no book can do it, but it might give you hints on how to improve your life or take a better perspective on what you are already doing.

There are an infinite number of ideas, and we are all trying to gather up all the best ones. If we are lucky, we might stumble across something worth sharing.

I’ve lived an exciting life thus far, so I have a lot of experience to share, and that is what my book has to offer to you.

It is up to us to make sense of our lives.

No matter how good the advice we get is, how great our life becomes is up to us and the actions we take. You can have all the knowledge in the world and an oracle to show you the way, but if you don’t take action, nothing will ever change.

I know that it is easy to sit back and wait for the world to change; I’ve tried that many times. But when I realized what I wanted and committed to it, everything became much more straightforward.

What’s important to remember is that even if we don’t get what we want, we will get satisfaction from pursuing our goals and working towards what matters to us.

Without commitment and effort, even the best advantage is worthless.

If you want to live a more meaningful life, it is up to you to do that. Indeed, you can read a big pile of self-help books or follow all the most popular gurus on YouTube. But without self-reflection, acceptance, acknowledgment and action, nothing will ever change.

I wrote this book to prove that it was possible to make a dent in reaching my goals. If that is also something that you are looking for, you might find some helpful advice on the pages.

This isn’t supposed to be an ad, but it is

Nobody likes advertisements, especially advertisements that pretend not to be what they are.

So let me be completely honest, I poured my heart and soul into my book, and I hope that it is something that I can share with you.

I also can’t make any promises; there is a difference between what the creator and the audience see with any creative project. At the same time, one person’s garbage is another person’s treasure.

Buy my book; it will make me happy!

Not only will my book make you happy, but it will help you appreciate all the fantastic things you are already doing with your life.

So often, we get distracted by everything else that is going on. But what matters is what we are already doing, and I hope that I can help you realize that.

Now that you are here, the question becomes, if you’ve read this far, what’s to stop you from buying the book? It’s right there below; click the button:

You can buy a copy of my book on Amazon.
